Quality Engineering Assessment:
Crafting a Roadmap for Success for Pekin Insurance
The Challenge
Pekin, a large P & C insurance company, faced challenges with their Quality Engineering( QE) practices. Moving code to production required excessive effort, often involving business users for testing. Despite these efforts, defects still slipped into production. Without proper metrics, the root causes remained unclear, leading to low confidence in releases and growing friction between the business and IT.
The Solution
To address these concerns, Exavalu conducted a 10-week Quality Engineering Assessment. Exavalu structured the engagement into three phases: Discovery, Current-State Assessment, and Target State Definition with a strategic roadmap. During Discovery, Exavalu interviewed stakeholders across the business and IT to understand the current QE landscape and vision. A detailed analysis of testing processes, automation, defects, and quality artifacts followed. The Current- State Assessment identified process gaps and compared practices to industry standards. Finally, the Target State and Roadmap defined clear improvement opportunities, prioritizing quick wins and long-term initiatives.
The Results
The assessment gave Pekin clarity on their strengths, gaps, and opportunities. It pinpointed where test automation should be scaled, which teams needed development methodology support, and how existing tools could be better utilized. Skill gaps were highlighted, along with training and resource augmentation needs. The roadmap provided a detailed, phased plan, including measurable targets for automation coverage, quality metrics, and delivery improvement. With this guidance, Pekin gained a clear path to elevate QE maturity and confidently deliver high-quality software.
