The great liability shift: From driver to developer For decades, auto insurance has been predicated on individual driver behavior, with premiums calculated based on driving history, age and other personal factors. But in a driverless world, this all changes.
As Barry Stevens, a senior technical underwriter at Zurich, explains in a recent article:“ It relieves the injured party from having to establish whether it was the driver or the car who was‘ driving’ at the time of the accident – and if it was the car, subsequently having to pursue a potentially costly and complicated claim against the manufacturer.”
